A Practical Walk

This is something I wrote up over a year ago.

Before coming back on this term, I was convicted that I needed to make time with God and Bible reading a bigger priority in my life. I have ended up spending significantly more time in the Word, but it’s been because of 3 main reasons:

1. Before coming back to Africa and since our arrival we’ve been hit by some deeply trying things. – These difficulties have me running to God’s Word searching for wisdom and comfort.
2. Right now we don’t have good internet connection. – Usually my favorite thing is climbing into bed at night and scrolling Facebook and Pinterest, but with those options out, I usually read the Bible on my phone.
3. I often wake up in the middle of the night and lie there wide awake. – Several months ago a former missionary wrote me and told me when she was awake at night she’d pray for people and quote memorized Scripture. Nighttime is now when a lot of quiet time alone time with my Father happens.

All of the above are things I don’t enjoy, or wouldn’t choose, but the other night as I lay awake, I realized that those three factors have been instrumental in fulfilling my request to spend more time with God.
If these challenges lead me to Him, then they are worth it. This refining process is not easy, but I hope to come out the other end more like Him.
