I’m thankful for the sense of smell.
The other day I was moving some dry leaves and all of the sudden I was transported to Upstate New York in the fall. And I thought to myself, “I’m thankful for good smells.”
Smells of fresh cut grass and manure also take me to New York, but in the summer months.
The smell of hay brings me back to my uncle’s dairy farm or the youth ranch my parents used to work at.
The sweet smell of cocido being made is one that I haven’t smelled in a long time, but it makes me think of Paraguay in the evenings.
The smell of fresh fish and palm oil takes me to an African market.
The dusty, yet damp smell of the air when it rains in Texas.
So many smells and I haven’t even talked about fresh bread from the oven, or lilacs, or brisket smoking!
I’m thankful for all the delightful things we’re able to enjoy simply through our sense of smell.
