It’s funny how I can type truths up about not worrying or keeping my focus on God, but the very next day fall back into the same old ways. Just because I can say something, doesn’t mean I always follow through with it myself. Just in the last 24 hours as I’ve been contemplating changes in our lives, I’ve seen the worries slowly start to slither in.
What if this plan doesn’t work out?
What if this is the wrong choice?
What if I’m jumping into this too quickly? Actually, I’m probably getting involved too slowly.
Gretchen Saffles in The Well-Watered Woman (pg. 188-189), reminds us that we need to daily preach truth to ourselves:
“The way to change your thoughts is through the daily discipline of preaching truth to your heart. In order to be a truth preacher, you have to know the pathways in your mind that are in need of rewiring, and you need to know the truth. Then you’ll be able to pave new ways of thinking.”
This lines up with Scripture:
“Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.”
1 Peter 1:12 NET
In his letter Peter is admittedly reminding believers of things they already know and he says he’ll remind them constantly.
I also need daily, constant reminders. I’m consciously choosing to focus on the good things of God, rather than my imagined “what ifs.” This morning, here I am writing as a way to remind myself of truths:
- God will not leave me. (Heb. 13:5)
- I don’t need to be worried, but cast my cares on Him with thanksgiving. (Phil. 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:6-7)
- No matter what 2025 or any other year brings, I have a hope to look forward to. (2 Cor. 4:16-18)
