Trust

I read an excellent book a while ago called Trust by Dr. Henry Cloud. One of the things he touched on was how there’s different ways of being trustworthy. He used the example of needing knee surgery. He might have a very good friend he trusts a lot, but wouldn’t trust him to do the surgery if this friend wasn’t a doctor.

Even though the book is about trusting people, it made me think about what makes God so ultimatley and perfectly trust worthy:

  • He is trustworthy because he is powerful enough to do something. I love my husband, but he’s not powerful enough to save me from my sins.
  • He is trustworthy because He is aware of me and my problems. Many people could help others out, but they aren’t aware or don’t understand what all is going on.
  • He is trustworthy because He actually cares. If God was powerful enough, but didn’t love me, why would He help?
  • He is trustworthy because He’s always available I’ve been in African villages with little to no cell connection. I’ve lived before we even had cellphones! And therefore have a tiny taste of feeling isolated and can’t get ahold of outside help if I needed it. God is on call 24/7 and can hear you no matter where on earth you are.
  • He is trustworthy because He is good. It may be cheesy, but it makes me think of supervillans in stories, they might have the power to do someting but they use it for evil. God on the other hand uses it for good.
  • He is trustworthy because…..my favorite here….He has a perfect track record. Dr. Cloud talked a lot about track records in his book. Not only does God have a good track record, but we have example after example of it in the Bible. Plus I’ve heard stories from people I’ve met and over the years have been accumulating my own pile of stories of how God has proven trustworthy.

In every aspect God is trustworthy. There has never been anyone like Him. And to think we have the privilege of trusting in the only truly and fully trustworthy One!
