I already wrote a little about how I sell on ebay. As I’ve gotten into it, I’ve realized there’s lots of ways to go about the process. I put together a quick list of the things I personally do and don’t do at the time of this writing. Given the fact that I’m new, chances are I’ll end up tweaking some of them down the road.
I DO promote items, but only for 2%.
I DO pre-package my items, but don’t seal them up, in case someone wants to combine orders or something.
I DO write item descriptions, but I keep them quick.
I DON’T use AI to write my descriptions… I don’t like AI.
I DO keep track of my items in a separate place, Excel to be exact. Here I can have info, like how much the item cost me and where I got it.
I DO sell items with stains or blemishes. I simple say that it’s there, take a picture of the spot and make the item cheaper. And yes, I have actually sold multiple items with holes or stains!
I DO make and accept offers. If my memory stands correct, I think there was only one offer I declined, and I’m glad I did, because I ended up selling that item shortly after for a higher price.
I DO have buyers pay their own shipping. What “free shipping” really means is that you the seller have incorporated the shipping costs into the price. So they pay shipping either way, it’ just how it’s labeled on the item.
I DO accept returns, but I have the buyer pay return shipping, and only accept them up to 14 days. I had a track suit returned because it didn’t fit. Upon return I relisted it and it promptly sold again. In fact the first sale, I accepted a lower offer and the second time the buyer paid full price! So that one really worked out well for me!
I DO officially give myself 3 business days to mail an item out, but I usually get it out the very next day.
I DON’T do auctions. From what I’ve been told, auctions are good for specific types of items. So maybe I’ll do it one day if I have something in high enough demand.
I DO sell a variety of items, from clothes, to clocks, to front stabilizer bar link kit for a Honda Fit, to vintage light switch covers. Some sellers keep their shops niche and specialized, but mine’s excitedly eclectic!!

If you sell on ebay, I’d love to know some of your do’s and don’ts!
