Guys, I’m getting so excited to start the new school year!
It’s really weird though, because this is my last year homeschooling 2 kids! My daughter’s a senior….it really hit me the other day as we sat in a college hallway waiting to talk to someone about dual credits. Anyways, I’ve gotten some comments about homeschooling here on the blog, so since it’s something people seem interested in, here’s what’s going down at our house:
- My daughter plans to take some dual credit courses (English and Art). English she can do online, art she has to go to the classroom. This is totally new for us, we’ll see how it goes.
- While it isn’t decided for sure yet, we’re looking into my son doing some kind of martial art class for his PE. This is another new thing for us. When my daughter did PE we did it much more informally, she’d track her time exercising. I think if this works out, he’ll enjoy having something more structured and official.
- I’m probably the most excited about Texas History & Geography!!! Both kids are doing it and we’re doing it as a self-designed course. I did this as a highschooler, but for New York. I made a notebook full of reports, pictures and info from field trips and all kinds of things. I enjoyed it, and I think it’s gonna be fun doing it for Texas!
- I’m happy to continue in our little homeschool group. While most of what my kids do there doesn’t count towards their credits, it’s still a great time of learning and social fun. Although some of it does count, for example, this week the group went to a museum together, and it’s counting as a field trip for their Texas study.

We’ll start school full-swing next week, all we did this week was a field trip.
I guess those are the big changes and exciting things for school this year. Do you homeschool? Any big changes this year or anything you’re particularly excited about?
