Feels Like Winter

The mornings tease with cool air before the sun has a chance to heat up the day. The dry wind blows. Dust often floats on the horizon. Some say it’s starting to feel like fall, but it reminds me of winter in West Africa. Our seasons were basically split in two: rainy season and dry season.

In rainy season everything turned lusciously green! The torrential downpours could cause outings to stop. The humidity would rise until finally the clouds would let loose their rain and it’d give some relief to the humid heat.

Even though I really like rainy season, there’s just something about dry season that I preferred. The dry air, the dustiness of everything. I can’t put my finger on it, but I loved the feel of it.

So right now, in Texas fall, I’m fondly remembering West Africa winters.
