When my daughter’s art teacher canceled class last minute, we changed our plans. We went to a different town, that has a discount grocery store. I remembered that they charge fees if you use a card, so I paid in cash. This store recently started a rewards program, so I got a discount with my rewards points. We also went to Wal-Mart, got gas, grabbed some drinks from Whataburger (okay, that wasn’t frugal), and went to 2 thrift stores. One thrift store I got a whole tub of books for just $1! Not only did I score all the books, but the tub they came in will store ebay items nicely! We drove our Honda Fit, which gets the best gas mileage of our 3 vehicles.
While out on this galivanting afternoon, I was hungry…and the Wal-Mart rotisserie chicken smelled wonderful, so I bought one. We had chicken sandwiches for supper that night. Today I pulled more chicken off the bone and tossed the carcass into a pot with water to cook into some stock. By the way, I watched a fabulous video on breaking down a chicken and the cost savings.
Another item I purchased yesterday was a bunch of green onions. While not all of my gardening has been successful, regrowing store-bought green onions has been pretty easy. So, I decided to buy some more. We’ll eat the tops, then plant the bottoms in a pot of soil for future onions. By the way, I’m not a fancy cook, but I’ve learned that if you sprinkle some chopped green onions to the top of a dish, people might start thinking you’re a gourmet chef! It’s a simple way to trick people!
I tried a back-eyed pea salad that I’ve been seeing on pinterest. I used oil, white vinegar, a packet of Italian dressing mix, black eyed-peas, peppers, tomato, green onion, corn, and zucchini. The black-eyed peas add protien and make it filling, plus they’re so cheap, especially if you buy them dry and cook them in the slow cooker.

And for my last frugal item….we’re going to my in-laws for supper tonight. I’ll take a bag of clothes and borrow her mannequin for ebay pictures.
Because this…..

looks way better than this…

And my nice mother-in-law lets me use her mannequin free of charge. 🙂
