November Gratitude #9

I’m thankful for writing. I enjoy writing on the blog, and I enjoy writing in my journal. I’ve found the night-time writing to help me close out my day. I tend to want to jump straight to my phone. While my phone might help to muffle the thoughts in my mind, writing the next day’s to-do list helps me to actually face those thoughts, and then not worry about forgetting, because it’s written down. And documenting my blessings helps me to remember all the wonderful things in the day and not just dwell on the hard.

One of the things I love about my journal is that, since I’m the only one who ever reads it, I can write freely. I can process thoughts better, if I’m not worried about what people will think. I don’t have to fret over my chicken-scratch handwriting, or have correct grammar, in fact I often don’t even write in complete sentences! Sometimes writing things as charts or diagrams helps me think through it in a more orderly way. I’ve always been a fan of spider outlines…I like them much better than traditional Roman numeral outlines. I even have a paper slipped in my journal of something I jotted down in a recent church service. Now every time I see it, I’m reminded of what I’m wanting to put into practice. So many ways writing is useful!

I’m thankful for the ability to write. So thank you to all my teachers (including my mom) who invested in teaching me how to read and write!
