You know that feeling when you’ve over indulged in sweets? You were really craving that Reeses peanut butter cup, which then became two , then three, then, who really needs to count?
You know that feeling when you’re really hungry and you’re craving a full, hearty meal? For me one of the meals I think of when my tummy is extra rumbly is a good Mafe (African peanut sauce over rice). I crave the protein from both the peanuts and beef, some manioc, cabbage and potatoes in there, all over a bowl of perfectly cooked rice. It hits the spot when I’m extra hungry!
The too much candy feeling, that’s how I feel after too much internet time. I really crave it, I think sitting down for a little while while I entertain myself and turn my thoughts away from worries will do the trick…then that “little while” turns into longer than I’d like to admit and leaves me feeling “ick.”
But when I sit down to a good, hearty meal full of vitamins and nutrients, it’s like I’m sitting down to God’s Word full of truth and authenticity. Just like making a full meal might be more work that ripping open another Reeses wrapper, studying God’s Word takes more effort than mindless scrolling. But I come out of it with a full, satisfied feeling. I gave myself what I really needed.

Now at the end of this, I realized both foods I chose to illustrate this point were peanut based…what can I say, I love peanuts in all their versatility.
