Frugal Five

I made lentil sloppy joes. I just make them like sloppy joes…but with lentils instead of ground beef. This makes them cheaper and more fiber-full than regular sloppy joes.

Unexpectedly my son and I had to drive to another town today to drop something off for someone. But we made the most of it and took the opportunity to: run into Wal-Mart, fill up on cheaper gas, go to Goodwill to both drop off a donation and purchase items, and lastly, stop in the discount bargain store. I got $5 off with the store rewards. 🙂 I sure love that store, they do have a lot of junk food, but there’s good stuff to be had too!

A while back our neighbors gave us a turkey. I think it had been given to them, but they didn’t want it. It’s been sitting in the freezer, but tonight I’m finally cooking it! We’ll have plenty of turkey for many meals to come!

I made a double batch of 3-ingredient granola bars, except this time I used a little flaxseed in place of some of the oats and added raisins to some of them. These work as a great pre-workout snack for my my son on Taekwondo nights.

Behold my uneven cutting skills!! Hey, at least this way you can choose a bigger piece or a smaller one. 🙂

Bonus frugal thing: I found an onion growing in my compost….should I eat it?

What money saving activities have you been doing lately?

  1. I just wrote about various frugal things today!

I am trying to use up all sorts of food things before we head to Europe and one of the things I want to do is use up various nuts and seeds in date bars, so this was a great reminder to do that! (I have a bag of almonds and a bag of dates, both of which should be used up, and I’ll toss everything in a food processor and voila – a energy dense snack!)
