Busy & Thankful

I’m busy…I know that’s what everybody says these days. Some people seem to wear it as a badge of honor. I don’t thrive on busy, I do better when there’s some breathing room. In this busy season I’ve allowed ungratefulness into my life. But the other day I was reading one of The Frugal Girl’s regular weekly thankful posts and she talked about how the things she’s busy with are a privilege. It really helped remind me to be thankful for these things taking up my time:

  • Helping my husband more in his business. While it does take time, the business’ success is growing and we’re continuing to make a profit we can live off of.

Speaking of the business…the shed is now at a usable state and my husband’s been loving have a place to work and keep his tools!

He was able to work in the new shed, to cut down this cabinet to make it fit in this spot for a client.

  • Busy with senior things. My feelings on this whole new phase of life deserve their very own post. We went and took senior photos and I’m planning a graduation party. Once the kids finish their schoolwork for the year, I’ll be sending it off to NARHS. Even though it hasn’t really sunk in that this is her last year of high school, I can be thankful for the privilege of homeschooling her all 4 years of high school, and that she’s hit this milestone. And I’m especially grateful that she’s not leaving home yet!!
  • Household chores. My daughter’s working a lot of hours, so I can’t rely on her as much for dishwashing, cleaning, or cooking. But I am thankful for the opportunity she has to work and not only earn money but gain this experience. And while I may have more household chores now, for the most part, I don’t mind these kinds of jobs. And to have a house and family to take care of is a great privilege!
  • The garden has taken up not only my kitchen table, but also time. However gardening is good for me in multiple ways: I’m learning, I’m getting outside, I’ll have healthy food, and it gives me lots of great analogies for life!

Thanks to my husband and son for helping me get the garden set up and ready for plants!

  • Another thing we’ll be adding to our plates is a weekly teen night. The idea of doing this came from the fact that there’s a group of teens my kids want to hang out with. Friends for my kids is an answer to prayer since moving back to the States.

These are a few of the things taking up my time, but each one is a good thing and the result of good things. Now to keep my perspective on what a privilege it is to be involved in each one.
