As we’ve continued to weed out more and more of our earthly possessions, I keep thinking, “I love these things!”
When I look in my closet I see pretty dresses that I love hanging there. Dresses that actually fit me and I actually wear. That’s so much more refreshing than opening it to see the dress that needs mending or the one that I only put on to confirm that yup, it’s still too tight.

Where we’re currently staying, I have my clothes in a dresser drawer instead of a closet. My clothes have never been this tidy, think I can keep it up?
When I look at our books that we’ve kept, it’s ones that mean a lot to us or we refer to on a regular basis (like my Bible, the kids school books, and of course my collection of journals). That’s so much better than overflowing shelves of books my kids have outgrown and never read anymore. Most of those we have passed on to other young readers only keeping the really special ones.
My “memory” or sentimental items has always been hard for me to pare down. But as I whittle away at it, some of the things that stay are the cute pictures and cards my kids have made over the years that put a smile on my face anytime I see them. These can’t be replaced.
Now when I go to get a container for leftovers out, I see a selection of the ones that I like best (because their lid actually stays on, it’s a perfect size, or not damaged). It’s so much easier to grab a good one when I don’t have to rummage through a bunch of cracked and lidless ones first.
Bonus tip: The Minimal Mom suggests keeping lids on the containers when they’re being stored in your cupoards. I tried it and haven’t looked back! I don’t have to look for the matching lid, it’s right there!

A few of the decorations that made the cut this most recent move.
Simply put, the more I declutter, the more I’m left with just my very favorite things: the things I use, enjoy, and love.
