November Gratitude Day#16

Today I’m particularly thankful for the phase of parenting I’m in.

I’m not gonna lie, somedays I really miss the young years. Hearing my daughter’s hands patting on the floor as she crawled trying to follow me around the hosue. She was my little sidekick who went everywehre with me. I remember my son, around age 4, confidently telling me he was going outside to, “fight the monsters.” The funny things they said, the cute little faces, reading them stories, seeing them grow in their learning, packing their little lunch boxes (how did they eat so little back then?). I miss those days.

My tiny tots when we first moved to West Africa.

But my mom taught me to enjoy each phase. This phase I enjoy how independent they are. Case in point, today I woke up with a migraine and stayed in bed until almost 1, then moved out to the couch. It’s so nice knowing they’re already used to making their own breakast and can figure out some food for lunch too.

I enjoy being able to watch non-kid movies together, play fun games and sit around talking and laughing. I’m really trying to soak up these years, as it’s moving way too fast.

Last year my daughter surprised me by secretly baking brownies for my birthday, one of the perks of having teens. šŸ™‚

  1. The kids were so cute in this picture! They look so small. I’m glad you are enjoying these years, and I’m sorry about your migraine! There are more fun stages ahead! I love the stages my kids are at now, too! ā¤ļø

  2. I love that if we look, there are treasures to be found in every stage in parenting. I’m wistful about some things I can’t recreate as my kids grow older (rocking them to sleep comes to mind!)…but it is an honour to see who and what they are becoming.

This is very front-of-mind because my son is turning 10 tomorrow. The last kiddo to get to double digits ā¤
