It’s strange the things that make my heart ache for West Africa:
- Seeing the jar of beurre de karite (shea butter) getting low.
- My husband brought home a small chest freezer. When I opened it up and looked inside, the interior of it reminded me of my beloved freezer in Africa and I started feeling misty-eyed…over a freezer!
- The thrill of joy I got when my husband showed me the bag of maggi cubes he ordered for me! Seriously, why don’t Americans make more use out of this little cube of flavor used all over the world?
- Anytime I find wax print clothes at Goodwill and I’m tempted to buy them…because it’s African! You wouldn’t believe how often I find this happens!
I know I’ll keep missing West Africa, but it’s odd to me the random things that hit me.

I miss the colorfulness of Africa.

I loved walking down to this little Friday market.
