I did not expect to be this delighted! Every morning I go into my kitchen and peak at my little pots of plants to see if any more have popped through the dirt. And when I see a new sprout I get almost giddy with delight! It’s like magic that a little seed can do that!
Then in the evening, I go check on my little green guys again, and I’m often shocked my their visible growth spurt from a.m. to p.m.!
What do I want from my plants?
Well eventually…
I want a purple-skinned eggplant to make sauce with.
I want to top a salad with fresh from-the-vine tomatoes.
I want to have cilantro always on hand.
I want crisp cucumbers to bite into.
While this maybe what I want, I know not to expect to see any fruit from my plants for a while. They have a lot of growing to do before they can handle that!

I feel like I needed this reminder from my little plants today. Even if I don’t see bunches of fruit from my life right now, that’s no reason to give up. I still need to be watering myself. I need to be faithfully praying, remembering and thanking God for the good things in my life, reading the Bible, and fellowshipping with other believers. Even if I’m not in a season of harvest yet, I won’t ever get there without tending to my spiritual growth, just like I’m tending to my little plants.

“We strive to give glory to God at each stage, and we trust him with the harvest. Blooming will certainly come, but don’t miss the joy and beauty of growing. Most of your life will be filled with normal, unrecorded, unexciting moments- and they all matter!” – Gretchen Saffles, The Well-Watered Woman
