I Wanna be a Dandelion

I want to be a dandelion because they’re useful, in particular, they’re edible. I don’t know that I’ve ever eaten them, but I did see my nephew stuff one into his mouth once! Just like the dandelion is useful to others, I want to be useful too.

I want to be a dandelion because they scatter and spread. They’re not complacent and stagnant. I want to go places (near or far) to spread the Good News.

I want to be a dandelion because, they not only scatter, but thrive around people. This intrigued me when I read it: “However, you still mainly find it where humans are most active: farms, fields, lawns, parks, and roadsides.” – Megan Leach on How to Harvest and Eat the Common Dandelion Yet, another way I want to be like a dandelion! I don’t want to scatter willy-nilly, I want to be where the people are, because people are important.

I want to be a dandelion because they’re bright and cheery. Yellow’s one of my favorite colors. As a kid I loved seeing lawns that were dotted with the vibrant yellow, and never understood why people complained about them. Just like a happy dandelion, I want to be a cheery spot to others.

I want to be a dandelion because they’re still serving a purpose, even when they’re old and white. Without the older dandelions, the seeds wouldn’t spread. I want to continue spreading the Gospel, even when I’m in the later years of my life.

I want to be a dandelion because they can grow and thrive, even in tight and tricky places. I want to be able to grow and bloom, even when the conditions around me aren’t perfect.

I admire this mighty weed and want to be just like it!

  1. Do dandelions grow in Texas? My grandmother used to cook dandelion greens. They were similar to other greens.

    1. Yup, they grow here. Although I don’t think there’s as many.
