I believe every book we as believers read, must be compared to the truths of Scripture. Any book I recommend does not necessarily mean I agree with 100% of it. All reading we do, should be done with the Bible truths in the forefront of our minds.
Remember last month, I told you I was reading a really good book? Well, I finished and can tell you all about it now!
Bearing God’s Name – Why Sinai Still Matters
By Carmen Joy Imes
My husband heard Carmen Imes on a podcast, and was impressed enough to purchase her book. Ironically, even though he bought it, I read it first.
The premise of the book is how the Ten Commandment of not taking God’s name in vain is greatly misunderstood. We tend to think it means to not say his name flippantly (like “Oh My God!”). But she argues that it means much more than that. It’s not just saying his name flippantly, it’s bearing it in any unworthy manner. Which we can do by how we live. She does a great job of giving an overview of the narrative of the Israelites, the Ten Commandments, and so much more that all are interwoven into the theme of bearing God’s name. She also discusses what this means to us, non-Israelites, in modern day.
To top it off, I found her writing style very pleasant to read. I learned so much from this book and highly recommend it, especially if some of that Old Testament stuff seems confusing to you.
All New Square Foot Gardening – Grow More in Less Space!
By Mel Bartholomew
Okay, I have to be honest. I didn’t read this whole book. I read portions and sifted through other sections. But I gleaned enough from it that I wanted to share it. Because of this book, I have 2 square foot garden beds, and my husband is wanting to use this method in part of his garden area too. If you’re into gardening or new to it, I recommend this book! It has great information and I’m looking forward to seeing the results of my square foot gardens!
