As I mentioned in my last post, we went camping with some of my family. Unfortunately my brothers and their families didn’t make it, but we had my sister and her family, my parents, and us four. We met up at Land Between the Lakes Piney Campground in Tennessee. Our family stayed 4 nights, and the rest of the crew stayed 5.
Between everyone in our group, we got to try 3 types of lodging. My parents brought their trailer. My sister’s family stayed in one of the 8-person cabins and we used our 2 tents. Even with the diversity of sleeping arrangements, we were able to get spots together. My parents were parked directly beside us, and the others had a cabin across the road.
The cabins are just one room with beds in them, no kitchen or bathroom. But they do have electricity and AC.
Our site had electricity, but not all the sites do. While we didn’t have water right at our spot, there was a shared spigot really close.
The wash house had restrooms on one side and shower rooms on the other. They also had a washer and dryer you could pay to use.
The campground had lots of sites, I enjoyed riding my bike around the different loops, alghouth it did get a little confusing at times! There were sites by the lake and some play areas scattered around, like a playground and volleyball net.
One of the features we enjoyed the most was the swimming area, in fact we went each day. Some of the crew went fishing. My parents brought their ebikes which they shared with everyone. The size and quality of the ashphalt roads made it a great location for riding around. It seems like it’d be a great place to camp if you had a boat!
If you get bored at the campsite, there’s plenty of local attractions. We went to the Gold Pond Planetarium, The Dip Diary Freeze (vintage feel, good ice-cream prices), and the Fort Donelson National Battlefield (free!).
This picture doesn’t do justice as to how beautiful this mimosa tree at the park was!
We had a nice fire pit, that we used for smores, mountain pies, and donuts.
Pros:
- Beautiful location with the lake right there.
- Good swimming spot (although it was shallow in most of it).
- Decent bathrooms and showers, even had paid washer and dryer.
- Electric at our site.
- Nice roads around the different loops, made it great for bikes and scooters.
Cons:
- We couldn’t bring our own firewood, but they sell it there. And we even had someone let us know of another campsite where almost 2 bundles had been left behind that we went and got.
In summary, it was a great campground and worked well for our little group! The shady trees, lakeside views, and good amenities all worked together to make it a super camping spot!
