September Book Stack

Not only did I finish two books this month, but they were both excellent reads! Going to bed with a book instead of a phone has been a great improvement! I now look forward to jumping into my comfy bed and getting into a book!

The Way of Eden – Resisting the Darkness

By Jonathan Dillon

I’d heard Jonathan Dillon on the Two Trees Podcast, then myhusband purchased his book.

I was blown away by how beautifully and rather poetically Dillon writes! It was a lovely read! As you can see in the photo, it’s thin and only has 10 chapters. I’d recommend this to those who want to read about Scripture and have a love of creativity. I also appreciated Dillon’s honesty as he talks about his struggle with depression, and think it could be an encouragement to others going through something similar.

Overcoming Headaches and Migraines – Clinically Proven Cure for Chronic Pain

By Lisa Morrone, PT

You may recall that last month I read Sleep Well Again, by Lisa Morrone. In that book she refers to this headache book. Since I loved her practical, clear ideas in the sleeping book, and I have migraines, I found a copy of this one on ebay and ordered it.

The idea of headaches coming on through triggers really clicked with me. Particularly how she talked about some people have a lower threshold for the onset of a headache, and how it can be multiple triggers that lead up to the migraine, not necessarily just one thing alone causing it. For me, I believe my biggest triggers are bright or strobing lights (when riding in a car at night, if I’m not the one having to drive I often wear my sunglasses, because the car headlights coming towards me irritates me), stress, and bad sleep.

Morrone is a Christian and in both of the two books of hers I’ve read, that comes out plain and clear. Because I agree with her beliefs, what she had to say about the Bible made complete sense to me. In fact, the chapter “Navigating Through the Seas of Discontent” (dealing with anger and anxiety being a headache trigger) was one of my favorite chapters of the book!

Also seeing her matter-of-factness about her beliefs and how they tie in with her life and her struggles makes me respect her so much more and want to meet her in person!

I love how in both these two books, she looks at possible causes, then step-by-step goes through how to deal with each of those causes. I definitely recommend this book to fellow headache or migraineurs!!

I also ordered two more of her writings: Overcoming Back and Neck Pain and Get Healthy for Heaven’s Sake. Be looking for those in a future post!

Now your turn! Share what you’ve read and if you considered it an excellent read.
